For this module I have to do a small presentation to the class on a designer, artist, photographer etc that I like so I have chosen to talk about jewellery designer Lucy Hutchings. This also relates to my project because she uses natural and raw materials to create her amazing pieces and my theme is very nature orientated. She grew up in Suffolk which encouraged her fascination with natural materials. Leaving Suffolk she studied at Brighton University and gained a first class BA Hons on a wood, glass, ceramics and metal course.
She gained quick success and was featured on WGSN, and in Vogue and Elle magazine. More recently one of her pieces was worn by Cheryl Cole which led to an increase sales and a raise in her profile.
Her work is bright, bold and colourful and about challenging the difference in science and nature which is demonstrated in her A/W 10 collection where she uses both peacock feathers and semi precious stones.

I fell in love with her work because of it's bright and chunky appearance. She creates statement pieces which will get you noticed and add elegance to any outfit. Her new S/S 11 collection is my favourite. It is very tribal and has bright colours with chunky pieces of stone and other raw materials.
